An inbound travel agency in Hong Kong was responsible for a tour group visiting from the Mainland, and after a full day of touring on a coach the tour group was treated to a meal in a restaurant. However, the tour guide looked very anxious upon watching TV news in the restaurant and was frantically making phone calls all the time. After half an hour he had some bad news to announce: ‘I am extremely sorry, and I didn’t know about this until watching the news just now, but the hotel rooms where we were planning to stay tonight have all been sold today by its developer. I was making phone calls to 20 other hotels, but none of them could offer any free rooms. So I’m afraid you will have to put up with sleeping on the coach for tonight.’
Of course the tourists were none too pleased and one of them argued with the tour guide: ‘Don’t fool us with this pathetic excuse. I know that you haven’t booked any room for us and you shouldn’t have taken on this tour if you haven’t got room for us. If you don’t get this solved, I’m going to jump into the harbour to protest!’
Another customer in the restaurant, also from the Mainland, decided to make himself known at that point and said, ‘Take it easy, man. The tour guide wasn’t lying to you all. I just snapped up 10 rooms of the hotel, and if any of you want to stay in those rooms, you can arrange it with me on the spot now!’

Mrs. Wong: Hey Mrs. Chan, how was your tour to Guangxi Province? Did you buy many souvenirs?
Mrs. Chan: Look at how much infant formula milk I’ve bought!
Mrs. Wong: What? You bought these all the way from there? Weren't there other things to buy?
Mrs. Chan: Well, I’ve never thought how good my packaged tour was. We had the last day free for shopping and own activities in Nanning. I walked into a random shop and who would have thought there were shelves stacked full with infant formula milk, I mean all brands that you normally see in Hong Kong and directly imported from Hong Kong too. Since I have so much difficulty buying the brand that I need here, I decided to snap up several tins of them!

Tour guide A: I’m not looking forward to taking my next tour.
Tour guide B: How come?
Tour guide A: The day after tomorrow I’m taking a tour to Beijing, but I heard that it’s hit by smog again, and most likely for a few days in a row. Then no one can see anything from the coach, and the clients are going to vent their frustration on me again.
Tour guide B: Don’t worry, take this with you and play this on the coach. It has all the famous landmarks filmed on bright sunny days with no air pollution. Look at how clear the video clip is!
Tour guide A: But don’t the landmarks look a bit old in your video?
Tour guide B: Who will know and who can tell? The visibility will be less than 50 metres with the smog and no one will see anything. Trust me, it will work a treat.
